Welcome to Mrs J C Altham & Sons Ltd.

Founded in 1856, our journey began as a humble butchers shop in Morecambe. Today, the business stands as a six-generation family-owned business run by Jane Watson, great-great-granddaughter of our founder and aided by Sarah Mellows, great-great-great granddaughter.

Over the course of six generations, we’ve undergone a remarkable transformation from butchers to one of the United Kingdom’s most distinguished ships chandlers. This evolution was driven by a profound understanding of the maritime industry’s unique needs and the unyielding determination to meet those needs with the utmost precision and care.

With our Head Office and Warehouse facilities located in a spectacular position overlooking Heysham Port in Lancashire, we supply all UK ports with provisions and stores of any nature.

Wilhelmsen Service Provider

We are a nominated service provider for Wilhelmsen. We hold an extensive range of stocks of Marine Chemicals, industrial and refrigerant gases, welding machines and consumables specific to the shipping industry. We can supply any product within the Wilhelmsen Catalogue through our sister business, Offshore Supply. Please contact us for further information.

Since 2009 Mrs J C Altham & Sons has been a proud member of the International Ship Suppliers and Services Association and has achieved the ISSA Quality Standard, a Maritime Industry globally recognised standard.

NSF

Mrs J C Altham & Sons (Lancaster) Ltd has been audited to NSF’s Food Safety in Storage & Distribution Compliance Audit Standard on 14 December 2023 and achieved Grade GOLD.

Mrs J C Altham & Sons is externally audited by NSF on an annual basis. This is an in depth audit that covers all business activity but in particular; HACCP, hygiene, premises, environmental, people and training. In the past 14 years we are proud to have been issued with CMI Gold Standard in every audit.
